1. Who We Are

Meneris ("we," "our," or "us") is an AI-powered academic writing assistant that helps students complete written assignments in their own authentic voice. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

2. Data We Collect

When you connect your Google account, we request access to a limited set of data necessary for Meneris to function:

  • Gmail (read-only): We read a sample of your sent emails solely to understand your personal writing style — vocabulary, sentence structure, tone, and voice. We do not read email content for any other purpose, share it with third parties, or store raw email text beyond the ingestion process.
  • Google Classroom: We read your enrolled courses and assignments to display them in Meneris and understand what is being asked. With your explicit approval, we submit completed assignments on your behalf.
  • Google Drive and Docs (limited): We create Google Docs in your Drive to hold your completed assignment submissions. We only access files that Meneris itself creates.
  • Account information: Your Google email address and user ID, used to identify your account within Meneris.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Voice modeling: Email samples are processed by our AI to build a personal writing profile — your vocabulary preferences, stylistic patterns, and tone. This profile is stored in your account and used only to generate writing in your voice.
  • Assignment drafting: Assignment descriptions and attached documents from Google Classroom are used as context for generating your draft. They are not shared externally.
  • Submission: After you review and explicitly approve a draft, Meneris submits it to Google Classroom on your behalf. We never submit anything without your approval.
  • Service improvement: Aggregated, de-identified usage data may be used to improve our models and features. We do not sell personal data.

4. Google API Data

Meneris uses the Google API Services. Our use of data received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically: data obtained through Google APIs is used only to provide and improve Meneris features that are visible to the user. We do not use this data to develop, improve, or train generalized AI or ML models. We do not transfer this data to third parties except as necessary to provide the Meneris service, subject to your consent, or as required by law.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your Google OAuth tokens are stored AES-256-GCM encrypted in our database. Your writing profile data (lexical preferences, style signals) is stored in our Supabase database with row-level security — each user can only access their own data. We do not store the full content of your emails; only derived style signals are retained after ingestion.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We use the following sub-processors to operate the service:

  • Supabase — database hosting
  • OpenAI — AI language model (assignment drafting; data subject to OpenAI's API data policy)
  • Google — OAuth authentication and Classroom/Drive/Docs APIs
  • Inngest — background job and workflow orchestration
  • Tavily — web search (used only for research-based assignments)
  • Vercel — application hosting

Content we send to our AI sub-processors to draft your work is subject to their own data retention policies. We use these providers under their API terms, which do not permit them to use your content to train their general models.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

You may disconnect your Google account at any time from within Meneris, which revokes our access tokens. To request deletion of all your data, email us at the address below. We will delete your account data within 30 days of a verified deletion request.

8. Children's Privacy (COPPA/FERPA)

Meneris is intended for students age 13 and older. We do not direct the Service to, or knowingly collect personal information from, children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian.

We do not use student data for advertising. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information without verifiable parental consent, contact us and we will delete it. Schools or districts seeking to enable Meneris for students under 13 under a data processing agreement (FERPA), please contact us.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can disconnect your Google account within the app at any time. For other requests, contact us at the address below.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by a notice in the app. Continued use of Meneris after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
